Blayne Godfrey pitched a no-hitter in No. 7 Hartselle’s 7-0 win over No. 2 and defending state champion Athens. She overpowered the Golden Eagles hitters with 11 strikeouts. She allowed only three base runners, two by walk and a hit batter. She helped her cause at the plate with a double and two RBI.
Kaelyn Jones had two hits, two RBI, two stolen bases and a run scored to lead the Hartselle offense, which scored four runs in the second inning.
Katie Norgard hit her team-leading fifth home run in the top of the seventh to seal the victory. She added a bunt single and had two RBI. Brooklyn Stiles had two hits and a stolen base.
Hartselle 5, Muscle Shoals 1The Tigers came from behind to get a 5-1 win over Muscle Shoals in their first area contest of the season. The Lady Trojans scored their only run in the bottom of the second inning. Hartselle tied the game in the top of the seventh when Jones’ single to right drove home Stiles, who doubled to start the inning.
Hartselle plated four runs in the top of the 8th to secure the victory. The game-winning runs came when Stiles’ single drove home Chloe Gray and Ashton King. The Tigers added two more runs on Katie Gillott’s two-run home run.
Stiles led Hartselle with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Jones had four hits and an RBI, while VK Hoyle had two hits.
Blayne Godfrey went the distance in the circle to pick up the win. She allowed one run on five hits while striking out 11 in eight innings.
Hartselle 2, Maryville (TN) 1Hartselle scored a run in the first and second innings and held on for a 2-1 win over Maryville (TN). Jones and Norgard scored the runs for the Tigers.
Sarah Bowling pitched a complete game to earn the win. She allowed one run on four hits while striking out four.
Brityan Godfrey and Hoyle each had an RBI.
