Hartselle defensive coordinator Bert Newton has been named the new defensive coordinator at Vestavia Hills High School in the Birmingham area.
Newton spent four years as the defensive coordinator for the Tigers. He built the Tigers’ defensive unit into a dominating force during his time at Hartselle.
“Bert Newton is the best I’ve ever been around,” said Hartselle coach Bryan Moore. “He has been so much more than just a defensive coordinator for Hartselle and for me personally. I have learned a tremendous amount from him over the last year. Our players and coaches will certainly miss him a great deal.”
Coach Moore will start the process of finding a replacement immediately.
“Our search for the right person will be first and foremost about the fit within our program and the character and values of the person,” said Moore. “We have an incredible defensive staff in place already and have several options on the table. We will act quickly as spring football is not far away.”
