HARTSELLE – Jackson Boyer will continue his football career beyond graduation at the Naval Academy.
The Hartselle High football standout, surrounded by family, friends, coaches, teammates, and administrators, inked a national letter of intent with the United States Naval Academy.
Boyer was a standout on defense for the Tigers. He finished his senior year with 106 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
“Navy is a brotherhood,” said Boyer. “At Hartselle, I was accustomed to being a part of a family, in football and basketball. That is what drew me to Navy. I get to be a part of something bigger than myself.”
According to Boyer, Navy plans to try him as an outside linebacker/ defensive end hybrid they call a Raider. This is a position that pass rushes a lot but also plays like a traditional LB some too.
“We’re more than pleased with the education Jackson received at Hartselle,” said Boyer’s dad, Todd. “Education is important to Jackson and getting to continue to play football while getting an education is a bonus.”
“I could never believe that my son would get to play college football,” said Boyer’s mom, Leslie. “I am so proud of him and his collegiate decision.”
Boyer said, “I am blown away by the show of support today. There were people here today that I have not seen in years. It will hit me in a couple of days how special of a moment this is for me.”
