The Priceville Bulldogs, voted the number one team in 4A by the Alabama Sports Writers Association for the first time in school history last week, swept East Lawrence to clinch the top sport in the area.
“I'm happy for the guys. We don't talk about goals a lot, but one thing we talk about is winning our area games and giving us a chance to host a playoff series,” said Bulldogs head coach Preston Potter. “We last won an area championship in 2019 when these guys were 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, and I think they've seen over the last couple of years what it takes to get where they are and where they want to be. It wasn't easy over the last couple of years, from area runner-up in 2021 to missing playoffs altogether in 2022. But, we're tougher because of it, and we've improved from the experiences.”
It was the final week of the regular season for Brewer and Falkville, who missed out on the playoffs, while Danville advanced to the 3A playoffs after a runner-up finish in their area.
Game one: Priceville 13, East Lawrence 0
Wes Walker went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBI to lead Priceville to a 13-0 win over East Lawrence in game one of their area series. Ty Parker had two hits and four RBI, while Jackson Prickett added three hits and one RBI. JoJo Garrison pitched four shutout innings for the win, allowing one hit while striking out nine.
Game two: Priceville 18, East Lawrence 0
Thomas Kerby and Colman Gann combined to pitch a one-hit shutout in Priceville’s 18-0 win over East Lawrence 18-0 in game two. Kerby started and worked four innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight. Gann worked the fifth and struck out the side.
Zack Chaney homered, doubled and had six RBI, while Garrison and Robert Munive had two hits and two RBI each. Xander Gaines and Parker added two RBI each.
Douglas 8, Brewer 7
Kade George had two hits and two RBI for Brewer in their 8-7 loss to Douglas. Justin Brooks and Hunter Knighten had two hits and one RBI each.
Game one: Ardmore 5, Brewer 2
Kyle Johnson had a hit and an RBI in Brewer’s 5-2 loss to Ardmore. Cole Drinkard had two hits.
Game two: Ardmore 20, Brewer 1
George singled and had an RBI in Brewer’s 20-1 loss to Ardmore.
Game three: Ardmore 4, Brewer 3
Dylan Thomas had three hits, while Justin Brooks and Logan Powers added a hit and an RBI each in the Patriots' 4-3 loss to Ardmore.
Danville 7, Falkville 6
Jackson Randolph had two hits, including a double, and two RBI in Danville’s 7-6 win over Falkville. Ben Capps had a hit and two RBI, while Cody Barber had a single and an RBI. Capps worked one inning of relief to get the win.
Dawson Fowler had two hits and an RBI for Falkville in the loss.
Game one: Decatur Heritage 12, Danville 3
Aiden Holiday had two hits and two RBI for Danville in their 12-3 loss to Decatur Heritage.
Game two: Decatur Heritage 12, Danville 9
Randolph had three hits, including two doubles and four RBI for Danville, while Sawyer Tapscott added a hit and two RBI.
