Hill’s career-high leads Lady Tigers past Huffman

Gracie Hill and Masyn Marchbanks combined for 41 points to lead the Hartselle Lady Tigers to a 53-42 win on Senior Night.

Leyanne Cera, making her first career start, scored the first two points for Hartselle. After a Kaitlyn Hogan free throw, the Lady Vikings responded with a 5-0 run to grab a 5-3 lead. The Lady Tigers answered with a 9-2 run to take a 12-7 lead. Hill hit two three-pointers to power the run. After a Huffman basket to cut the lead to 12-9, Hartselle closed the first quarter on a 5-2 run to lead 17-11.

The Lady Vikings opened the second quarter with a 7-4 run to cut the lead to 21-18. The Lady Tigers, however, responded with a 9-3 run, powered by three-pointers from Hill and Marchbanks. Hartselle went into the halftime break leading 30-21.

The teams traded baskets and free throws to open the third quarter, with Huffman cutting the lead to 34-28. Hill hit two more three-pointers to help the Lady Tigers close out the third quarter on a 6-4 run to take a 40-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Marchbanks scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to push the Hartselle lead to 44-32. Huffman answered with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 44-37. The Lady Tigers extended their lead to 51-39 with a 7-2 run. The teams traded baskets to close the game, with Hartselle taking a 53-42 win.

Hill finished with a career-high 21 points while knocking down five three-pointers to lead the Lady Tigers. Marchbanks added 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
