Hartselle softball finishes fourth in regional play

The season ended for the Hartselle Tigers softball team following a loss to Mortimer Jordan in the loser’s bracket of the 6A North Regional in Florence. The Tigers finished 34-16-1 in coach Christopher Reeves’ second season.

Hartselle 8, Cullman 0
The Tigers opened the North Regional with an 8-0 win over Cullman. Hartselle did their damage by scoring four runs in the third inning and four more in the sixth. The Tigers had 13 hits, including home runs by Virginia Hoyle and Katie Norgard.

Sarah Bowling picked up the win after allowing three hits in four innings of work. Blayne Godfrey earned the save after three innings of scoreless relief.

Athens 9, Hartselle 2
Hartselle fell into the loser’s bracket following a 9-2 loss to Athens. The game started on Wednesday and finished on Thursday due to heavy rains that postponed Wednesday afternoon games.

Norgard and Hoyle each had a hit and a run scored to lead the Tigers. Kaelyn Jones and Chloe Gray each had a hit and an RBI.

Godfrey took the loss after allowing five runs in two innings.

Hartselle 12, Buckhorn 2
The Tigers rolled through Buckhorn with a 12-2 win to advance in the loser’s bracket. The Tigers scored three runs in the second and third innings and six in the fifth to end the game.

Brit Godfrey finished with three hits, including two doubles and three RBI, while Jones finished with three hits and a run scored. Gray had a hit and two RBI. Morgan Osborn scored three runs, while Hoyle and Katie Gillott each had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

Bowling picked up the win after allowing two runs on four hits in five innings.

Mortimer Jordan 12, Hartselle 2
Hartselle came up short in their 12-2 loss to Mortimer Jordan in the loser’s bracket semifinals. Hartselle fell behind 5-0 after two innings and couldn’t find the offense to battle back in the loss. However, the Tigers scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings.

Blayne Godfrey and Hoyle each had two hits to lead HArtselle. Hoyle also had an RBI. Brit Godfrey had a hit and an RBI, while Brooklyn Stiles and KJ Prater each scored a run.

Bowling took the loss after allowing six runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings of work.
