Lady Hawks advance to state tournament

After a subpar regular season, the Lady Hawks turned into one of the hottest teams in the state as they won three straight to win the 3A North Regional and advance to the State Championships at Choccolocco Park in Oxford. As a result, Danville will play in the state tournament for the first time since 2007.

Danville 7, Mars Hill 5
The Lady Hawks punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 7-5 win over Mars Hill to win the 3A North Regional at the Florence Sportsplex. Hannah Tillman led Danville with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, while Kirstyn Robinson added two RBI.

McKinley McCaghren earned the win after pitching a complete game. She struck out six in seven innings.

Danville 6, Colbert County 3
It took extra innings for Danville to advance to the championship game with a 6-3 win over Colbert County. The Lady Hawks, tied 2-2 with the Lady Indians after seven innings, scored four runs in the top of the eighth to grab a 6-2 lead. They held off Colbert County in the bottom of the inning to pick up the win.

Aubrey Reed had three hits, including a double and two RBI, to lead the Lady Hawks, while Adily Alberti, Hallie Watson and Isabella Guest each added a hit and an RBI.

McCaghren picked up the win after six innings of relief, allowing two runs on six hits with nine strikeouts.

Danville 5, Gordo 1
Danville opened the 3A North Regional with a 5-1 win over Gordo. The Lady Hawks were led by Alberti, who finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

McCaghren had two hits and an RBI, while Tillman added a hit and an RBI. Robinson had two hits, including a double, while Watson drove in a run.

McCaghren picked up the win after pitching a complete game, allowing one run on four hits while striking out 10.

The Lady Hawks open play in the state tournament on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. against the St. James Lady Trojans.
