Hartselle uses a fourth quarter comeback to defeat Homewood 73-65

HOMEWOOD – Trent Wright and Brody Peebles combined for 11 points in the fourth quarter to help lead Hartselle to a comeback win over Homewood in the 3rd place game of the Metro Tournament.

The Tigers, who were trailing 55-52 after the third, outscored the Patriots 21-10 in the fourth to secure the victory.

Peebles led Hartselle with 20 points. Jackson Raley had 14 while Tad Sivley added 13, and Kiah Key scored 10 points.

Homewood was led by the trio of PJ Davis (28), Marcello Nanni (12), and Pate Owen (10).

Davis scored nine of his game-high 28 during the third quarter to help Homewood grab the lead heading into the fourth.

Hartselle (15-4) hit seven 3-pointers in the game with Peebles, Raley, and Key, each knocking down two.

Peebles had 11 first-half points, while Sivley added six, and Raley had five in the first half for the Tigers.

The win was the Tigers 15th of the season and the sixth in their last seven games.

COACH KEY’S THOUGHTS: We hit 18 of 19 at the foul line, including 10 out of 10 in the fourth quarter that allowed us to win the 4th quarter, which was the best part.

This tournament was three days of high-level competition and coaching that I think made us better. When we get more than two guys in double figures and contributions from our bench that we’ve seen the last few games, it allows us to go to another level.

UP NEXT:  Hartselle will host Florence on Friday night. The girls will play first at 6:00 pm with the boys following at 7:30 pm.
