Peebles and Ward lead Tigers to 93-67 win over Saraland

Hartselle wrapped up their three-game stay in Mobile with a 93-67 win over Saraland on Saturday afternoon.

Brody Peebles and Luke Ward combined to score 57 points in leading the Tigers to victory.

Peebles scored 25 points, and Ward added nine in the first half to held lead Hartselle to a 44-25 lead at the break.

“Everything starts with Brody,” said Hartselle coach Faron Key. “He sets the tone with his aggressiveness and competitiveness, and then everyone feeds off of him.”

The Tigers, trailing 14-11 after the first, outscored the Spartans 33-11 in the second to blow open the game.

Hartselle extended their lead to 66-46 behind eight points from Ward in the third quarter.

“My teammates found me when I was open and trusted me to make the shot,” said Ward on his shooting performance.

The Tigers outscored the Spartans 27-21 in the fourth quarter as Peebles, Ward, and Kiah Key combined to score 20 to help secure the victory.

Peebles finished the game with 34 points, five assists, and four steals to lead Hartselle. He averaged 39.3 points per game this weekend.

“Great to have three wins to start the season,” said Peebles. “We still have a lot of areas to grow in, and growth is always good.”

Ward had a career-high 23 points and four steals. He hit six of the Tigers 12 three-pointers.

“Luke shot the ball well this weekend,” said coach Key.

Key added 10 points, five assists, and three steals. Coleman Mizell, Trent Wright, Ryan Dunn, and Elijah Kelick each scored five points. Mizell finished with six rebounds, Wright added seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists, while Kelich had five rebounds and two steals.

Also scoring for the Tigers was Cade Miles with three points, Kohl Key had two, and Tevin Shields added one.

“Our defense fueled our offense all weekend,” said coach Key.  “We played hard, we played fast, and we played with a purpose for most of the game.  We have to be more consistent for longer stretches of the game.”

Hartselle (3-0) will be at home on Tuesday night as they play host to Austin.
