Hawks can’t catch JB Pennington in a 36-7 loss

The Danville Hawks failed to capitalize on the momentum of last week’s win over Susan Moore as they fell 36-7 to visiting J.B. Pennington.

After falling behind 7-0, Kade Taylor got the Hawks on the scoreboard with a 68-yard touchdown run with 9:50 left in the first quarter.

J.B. Pennington controlled the remainder of the game as they outscored Danville 29-0 to get the victory.

The Tigers were led by Joshua Marquez, who rushed 287 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries. He scored on runs of 69, 23 and 68 yards.

J.B. Pennington (3-1, 1-1) led 14-7 after one quarter and then 20-7 at halftime.

The Tigers finished with 385 total yards, including 311 on the ground. Danville finished with 197 total yards, with 136 coming on the ground.

Danville (1-3, 1-1) was led in rushing by Taylor, who finished with 92 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. He averaged 13.1 yards per attempt. He also led the defense with 11 tackles, including a tackle for loss.

It was all Pennington the rest of the night. The Tigers rolled up 385 yards of total offense to 197 for Danville.

Danville continues Class 3A, Region 7 play Friday when they travel to Madison Academy (1-2, 1-0).
